One green card through marriage requirement may be changing

There are many couples in the Miami area where one person is from a foreign country while the other is a citizen of the United States. Those who are in these relationships and get married may want to obtain a green card. There are many who want to seek permanent residence and one of the requirements for this may soon be changing.

Those who are seeking a green card through marriage may be interested in hearing about a change that is in the works. Initially, a green card issued to immigrants is valid for 2 years and then those who want to seek permanent residence must go through an interview to prove that their marriage is not fraudulent. Under new procedures announced recently by the United States Citizenship and Immigration Services (USCIS), the interview may no longer be necessary, if certain requirements are met.

First, there needs to be sufficient evidence that the marriage is authentic and was not entered into to receive citizenship. Second, there is no evidence of fraud in the immigration paperwork. Third, the main petitioner has already been interviewed by the USCIS. And, fourth, there are no complex issues that require an interview to clarify.

This new policy change may help legal immigrants in the U.S. avoid what is sometimes seen as a nerve-wracking interview. Those who are interested in obtaining a green card and possible permanent residence may want to speak with an attorney who specializes in immigration. An attorney can review their client's needs and help them obtain their immigration goals. They understand how complicated the immigration system can be and want to help as much as possible using their vast knowledge.

A change in the green card and permanent resident proceed can be welcome news to many Miami area residents. An immigration attorney can help their client with any questions they may have regarding this procedure.
