Barriers caravan immigrants may face when they reach the country

News agencies in Florida and across the United States have been reporting on a caravan of immigrants that are headed to the U.S. to seek asylum. Many of these immigrants are coming to the U.S. from Honduras hoping to make a better life for themselves and their families. But, they face many obstacles when they arrive at the U.S. border.

One barrier an immigrant who is seeking asylum may face at the border is getting turned away. Many times border officials have stated that they're at processing capacity and that an immigrant will need to come back later.

Another barrier is that children will become separated from their parents. If immigrants cross the border illegally, it is a criminal offense where the parents are placed in custody while the children are taken elsewhere.

The third barrier is being locked up even after legally asking for asylum. If a person tries to enter the U.S. without a visa, they will likely be detained. In addition, if those seeking asylum claim gang or domestic violence, they do not qualify for asylum.

Finally, judges in the U.S. are becoming stricter when it comes to immigration issues, with over 60 percent of those seeking asylum being denied. For Hondurans seeking asylum, the denial rate is 80 percent.

There are hundreds of thousands of immigration cases on backlog in the U.S. Those who want a new life in the U.S. can find many barriers to their case. A legal professional who specializes in immigration can help their client obtain their immigration goals. They can take a look at their client's situation and give them options that may work for them.

With the constant scrutiny of immigrants in the U.S., it can be hard for a person to get a good answer as to what's going on with their legal needs. An immigration attorney understands their client's struggles and fights to make sure their legal rights are protected.
