Car accidents injure 4 on US 19 in Florida

On Behalf of | Jul 25, 2014 | Car Accidents |

Four people were hurt in a serious accident on US 19 in Florida, a July 23 report states. This crash, like so many others, appears to be caused by mechanical failure, as a trailer separated from a white Ford pickup and went airborne. The trailer then crashed, causing mayhem.

The accident took place on July 22 during rush hour, which is probably the reason so many vehicles became involved. The count, at last update, was 10 vehicles. One driver reported that her minivan was struck by the trailer directly, but others had to swerve to avoid being hit, and that caused other accidents.

One driver, a 35-year-old in a 2009 Toyota Corolla, had to be airlifted to Bayfront Medical Center. She was reported as having serious injuries. Three other people also had to be taken to Mease Countryside Hospital with minor injuries. It’s not clear why the trailer detached based on the report, but the Ford pickup truck driver, a 37-year-old man, has been cited for careless driving.

This part of the highway is one of the main locations where accidents occur in Pinellas County. There were 79 crashes in 2012 at the intersection of U.S. 19 and Curlew Road. Another nearby intersection — where U.S. 19 and Tampa Road come together — has the highest number of incidents for 2012. According to the Florida Department of Transportation, there were 86 crashes there.

Car accidents happen for many reasons, but in this area, police indicated that negligence is one of the main causes. If you’ve been hurt due to negligence, remember: You have the right to seek compensation for your injuries.
