Two-car collision involving out-of-control vehicle

On Behalf of | Aug 21, 2013 | Car Accidents |

Two people were taken to the hospital following an accident that happened just south of Florida Interstate 295. When a driver in his early 70s experienced a sudden medical emergency, his vehicle became out of control. After his car rolled into oncoming traffic, it collided with a pickup before both cars were slammed into a curb.

Before the car accident took place, witnesses report seeing the elderly man in the drive-thru lane at Hardee’s. After suddenly slumping over his steering wheel, his car entered the northbound lanes of San Jose Boulevard in Jacksonville. Along with hitting the pickup truck, the out-of-control vehicle hit a light pole and damaged a power line. Lanes were closed for the next three hours while a cleanup crew worked to clear the debris.

Two bystanders were integral in rescuing the elderly driver before ambulances arrived on the scene. After quickly pulling the unconscious man from his vehicle, they successfully performed CPR on him. Witnesses report that the elderly man was brought back to consciousness twice before being transported to the hospital. The driver of the pickup truck was also taken to the hospital with unspecified injuries.

In a case such as this, it is unclear whether the elderly driver was at fault for causing the accident. Although his medical emergency was unexpected, it is possible that he had doctor’s orders to stay off the road. A lawyer may be able to help an injured victim of a car accident file a personal injury lawsuit against the driver who caused the accident. In addition to compensation for medical expenses, a lawsuit may be able to provide money for pain and suffering.
