A hit-and-run accident can leave a victim not only in serious condition, but unable to pursue damages from the responsible party. Leaving the scene of a fatal car accident is a crime, and a driver who does so will be sought by police. With their own expertise and often with the help of the general public, hit-and-run drivers often are brought to justice. This can be helpful to accident victims, who have rights to seek restitution for the suffering and damages they have endured.
Miami-Dade police are seeking a man right now who hit a father and his 13-year-old son on Oct. 13 on Old Dixie Highway and 264th Street. The young teen died at the scene after a car, believed to be a white 2001-2006 Hyundai Elantra, plowed into him as the father and son were making their way across a street in a crosswalk.
The father was clipped by the car. It’s not clear what sort of injuries he may have suffered. All he could do was watch as the driver left the scene. Police state that the car is missing the right-side mirror and bears other damage on the same side. Police are urging anyone with information to call Crime Stoppers, and they are reminding the public that such calls can made anonymously.
The father in this case is clearly distraught in the wake of his loss. He reports he’s not sleeping, is barely eating and that he wants his son back. Though finding the responsible driver will not bring back the teen, criminal or civil proceedings against the accused would bring justice and could help bring some closure to the grieving father.
