For many people in Naples, Florida, a recent car accident took the life of a prominent figure in the catering industry. The woman, a chef known for her unique take on cooking and propensity for throwing small, high-end parties, was killed after her car was struck by a pick-up truck at an intersection.
Whenever a car accident occurs, those involved can suffer serious injuries or even be killed in the crash. If the crash was fatal, family and friends of the victim are left with questions about the cause of the accident and whether it could have been prevented. In this particular incident, Florida Highway Patrol is still investigating to determine how the accident occurred.
Thus far, investigators know that the pick-up truck had run a red light. The chef had been crossing the intersection and was hit; the collision pushed the chef’s vehicle into a post on the side of the road. Responders immediately transported her to a local hospital but her injuries were too great and she did not survive. A child who was in the pick-up truck sustained minor injuries.
Currently, there is no information as to whether the driver of the truck will be charged in the fatal crash. This will remain so until FHP’s investigation is complete. Those who knew the chef are likely wondering why the truck driver ran the red light. Had the driver been distracted? Was there drugs or alcohol involved? Had the stoplight malfunctioned?
If the investigation reveals that the pick-up truck driver had been negligent behind the wheel, the victim’s family could seek damages by filing a civil claim.
