Family in a fatal Florida auto accident loses a sister

When a car accident occurs, the results can be devastating. The physical injuries that can result can permanently impact a car accident victim. If the crash was fatal, the family and friends of the victim are forced to deal with their loss for the rest of their lives.

In late April, a fatal car accident took the life of a 14-year-old girl. Three other children survived the crash which occurred when their mother was driving and crashed the vehicle. Police suspect that she had been driving under the influence of drugs and alcohol at the time of the crash.

The mother was also injured after she and the victim were thrown from the car. She is currently recovering in the hospital after which she will appear in court on DUI charges. According to the judge, the mother's blood-alcohol level was almost four times the legal limit.

This particular case was brought before a family court recently. A judge ruled that the children who survived the accident should remain in the custody of a child welfare agency until the Department of Children and Families clears a relative to take over their care. The child welfare agency will conduct a home study of the couple to determine whether the home is suitable for the best interests of the children.

These three girls have already had a difficult life, according to a DCF spokesperson. Now they are dealing with the loss of their sister as well as their mother, who may serve a prison sentence if she is convicted of the charges.
