Authorities say that a 53-year-old Miami man was hit by up to eight cars in a series of hit-and-run car accidents last weekend. The Miami grandfather was first hit while crossing NW 27th Avenue by 115th Street after 9 p.m. on Saturday. The motorist who hit him stopped to help but unfortunately the man was hit by five to eight more cars speeding along the road before he could be rescued. He was pronounced dead at the scene.
“The first driver said he probably would have lived,” the man’s daughter-in-law said. “He hit him, but he said not enough to kill him. He said he tried to get up from the hit, he only hit him with the side of the door. The other cars came flying and nobody stopped.”
Authorities have not charged the first driver with any crime and the driver did not suffer any personal injuries in the accident. The man’s family says that the avenue is very dark and that car speed in the area frequently. The man’s granddaughter asked those who hit her grandfather to come forward. She was out celebrating her 18th birthday the time of the accident. The man’s wife echoed her granddaughter’s plea.
“Please, the people that hurt my husband, if they have a conscience, if they have family, please come up and say ‘Yeah, I hit him’,” the man’s wife said. “I’ve been his wife for 32 years. Imagine how I feel. The message I want to get out is please be careful when you’re driving on an avenue.”
