How does one obtain a green card after receiving a job offer?

Job opportunities in Florida might be available to those who are not citizens of the United States, but appropriate residency status may be necessary to facilitate an acceptance of a position. Both job applicants and employers may wonder about the process for securing a green card in connection with the prospective employment opportunity. The approach may depend on the candidate's location in or out of the country.

Does your firm's success hinge on employment immigration?

Employment immigration is a critical resource for many Floridian firms. Companies use it to add talent to their workforces, gain fiscal benefits and explore vital new modes of operation. It's critical that your firm employs employment immigration correctly in order to derive the results you desire while avoiding the negative consequences of failing to stay compliant with the law.

E-2 visa may help foreign investors to immigrate quickly

Foreign business owners wishing to move to Florida or any other state in the union may be able to do so with an E-2 visa. Although employment immigration is often a difficult prospect, the E-2 visa makes moving the whole family to the United States relatively simple for those with sufficient means. Individuals who are able to make a business investment of about $200,000 can usually receive a 5-year E-2 visa in a few months time.

Entrepreneurial opportunities for immigrants

Florida could be a destination for immigrants who invest at least $500,000 in order to take part in the EB-5 investor visa program. Through this program, immigrants have the opportunity to set up businesses that create at least 10 jobs in economically struggling areas. They will be granted conditional permanent residency status and can bring immediate family members with them.

Immigration status affects tuition rate in Florida

Some students at the University of Central Florida have immigrant status, but the type of status the student has makes a difference in whether they pay in-state or out-of-state tuition. The difference in the tuition price for in-state students is about $10,000 less than out-of-state students.

Produce plant needs to verify worker status

In a move that could impact workers in Florida, federal immigration authorities swooped into a Washington produce company and asked an estimated 90 percent of the workers to provide the necessary papers to prove their legal employment. U.S. Immigration and Customs Enforcement found payroll discrepancies after an audit and requested the documentation. However, they did not specify how many workers were impacted.

Justin Bieber may face immigration problems after DUI arrest

Singing star Justin Bieber could possibly face more than DUI and reckless driving penalties after his arrest on Jan. 23 in Florida for drag racing while allegedly under the influence of alcohol and drugs. Some legal experts have speculated that the 19-year-old celebrity's immigration status may also be called into question. Bieber is living in the United States on a work-related visa, and some observers feel that the Canadian citizen may even be deported.

Court rules undocumented immigrant can practice law

Immigration is a popular topic, especially among those who live in Florida and states that share a common border with Mexico. The outcome of a recent case has sparked an animated discussion among those who stand on both sides of the immigration issue. On Jan.2, the Supreme Court of California ruled that it was legal for an immigrant lacking sufficient documentation to be admitted to the state bar as well as to practice law in the state.

What can past immigration tells us about low-skilled workers now?

As readers of our blog know, the new immigration bill has met several road blocks that have prevented it from moving faster through the Senate.  Currently, there are rising concerns among conservatives over whether giving citizenship to the millions of undocumented immigrants already in the United States is a good idea or not.  As some conservatives point out, this influx of low-skilled workers will flood the market, possibly raising unemployment to unimaginable levels.

Rubio backs immigration bill despite previous concerns

Despite his previous concerns with the immigration bill when it was first being drafted, Florida Rep. Marco Rubio has recently offered his full endorsement for the new legislation that could soon offer the undocumented immigrants in the U.S. a pathway to citizenship.
