On Behalf of | Oct 4, 2018 | premises liability |

There are many hazards that older residents face. The elderly population is especially fragile and even a minor fall can result in serious injuries. Falls are the most common cause of injuries for senior citizens and can lead to months of rehabilitation, even death. If a fall was the result of another person’s negligence though, it could be a premises liability situation.

One third of Americans over the age of 65 fall every year. They also account for 87 percent of all fractures for those over 65. These fractures may require a senior to be hospitalized and surgery. These can also require months of rehabilitation. Half of seniors who suffer a hip fracture are not able to go home or live independently again.

Thirty percent of falls for seniors occur in public places. There are many hazards that can cause a senior to fall when they are at the grocery store, mall, parking lot, church and other public places. These dangers include slippery surfaces, poor lighting, objects left on the floor, unstable furniture and tripping obstacles. Many of these accidents are preventable and occur because of a property owner’s negligence.

If a person is the victim of a fall that is caused by a dangerous property condition, they may want to speak with a legal professional who is skilled in personal injury. An attorney understands a person can suffer from serious injuries because of defects on another person’s property. They can hold the property owner accountable for their negligence and work to recover compensation for their Miami client’s injuries and damages.
