Medication used for hypothyroidism recalled

Many Miami residents use medication to help with their chronic health condition or to help make them feel better from an illness. Those who use these medications trust that the medications that they take are safe and will do what is expected. A prescription drug recall has been issued for a thyroid medication that many people take.

Westminster Pharmaceuticals has issued a voluntary recall for prescription medication under the name Levothyroxine and Liothyronine. The FDA issued a warning letter in June saying that the Chinese manufacturer which made certain ingredients in these drugs had a number of failures. These include quality and purity of the drugs they manufactured. More than 4.5% of Americans suffer from an underactive thyroid or hypothyroidism. Those who have been taking these medications should talk to their doctors before discontinuing their use.

No one expects their medication will be dangerous and cause further harm. These medications are supposed to be safe. Manufacturers should be taking extreme caution in making sure their medications are adequately tested and quality and safety is a priority. When this doesn't occur, patients can suffer unexpected medical trauma. A legal professional who specializes in personal injury can help their client determine if their medication has caused unexpected injury. They can hold manufacturers responsible for their neglect. Compensation may be available for medical expenses, pain and suffering, lost wages, and other damages.

Prescription drug manufacturers have a duty to create medication that is safe for their patients. When a manufacturer takes shortcuts, doesn't adequately test their products, or is negligent in any way, they need to be held responsible.
