Fiery crash at Miami Dade college campus proves deadly

A fiery, high-speed crash at the entrance to a Miami Dade College's Liberty City campus building left one person dead and three injured just after midnight on Aug. 27. According to witnesses, the driver of a silver Lincoln was attempting to avoid hitting pedestrians standing at a bus stop on NW 7th Avenue when he apparently lost control of the vehicle. In the estimation of those who observed the crash, the car may have been traveling at as much as 100 mph.

Immediately after the crash, the car burst into flames and the driver fled on foot. One passenger was thrown through the front window and landed on the hood of the car. Another passenger died inside the car. Although some witnesses distanced themselves from the scene, a nearby security guard and two men made an attempt to help the car's passengers. With their assistance, three injured males were taken to the Ryder Trauma Center. Two of the men were reported to be in stable condition while one was listed in critical condition.

According to a spokesperson for Miami Police, a man suspected to be the fleeing driver reported to Jackson Memorial Hospital at 3:10 a.m. and was detained. The car is believed to have been stolen in North Miami on Aug. 18. According to the police, no evidence exists to suspect DUI, but they did confirm that excessive speed was a factor in the incident. Charges against the driver are said to be forthcoming.

A Florida resident who has been injured as a passenger in a car accident may be facing medical bills, loss of income and other expenses, and may be worried and unsure of how to proceed. A personal injury attorney may be able to negotiate with insurance companies in an effort to pursue a satisfactory financial settlement to cover all expenses incurred because of the accident.
