Changing CD player leads to fatal crash on the Florida Turnpike

On Behalf of | Nov 30, 2011 | Car Accidents |

People who are on the road do not necessarily think about the risk of getting into an accident. But car accidents likely occur every day in Florida.

There are a number of different ways that a crash can happen. But whether an accident is the result of a drunk driver or a careless driver, victims can still sustain serious injuries and even injuries that can result in death. A fatal crash occurred earlier this week on the Florida Turnpike and investigators believe it may have been caused by a distracted driver.

According to Florida Highway Patrol, the Florida woman had been driving on Monday when she was hit by another vehicle. The woman’s car flipped and she did not survive the crash. Two of her passengers also sustained injuries.

Whenever an accident occurs, the question to be answered is “how did this happen?” Crash scene investigators seek to answer that question; often the answer gives the family of the victim some closure regarding the loss of their loved one.

In this particular instance, police believe that the driver of the other vehicle had been changing a CD in her car’s CD player. That momentary distraction was what caused her car to drift into the next lane and collide with the accident victim’s SUV.

As technology continues to advance, there are more distractions inside the car that can take a driver’s attention from the road. But if a driver’s eyes leave the road for a second, even just to switch a CD, it could result in serious injuries and property damage.
